Preparation.—"Tannic acid, in fine powder, twenty grammes (20 Gm.) [309 grs.]; benzoinated lard, eighty grammes (80 Gm.) [2 ozs. av., 360 grs.]; to make one hundred grammes (100 Gm.) [3 ozs. av., 231 grs.]. Rub the tannic acid with the benzoinated lard, gradually added, until they are thoroughly mixed, avoiding the use of iron utensils"—(U. S. P.).
Action and Medical Uses.—Astringent and antiseptic. Useful in piles, ulcers, some forms of cutaneous disease, and where such indications are requires.
