Hej Henrietta!
Thank you for your wonderful website...

I am a north american herb student who is married to a Swede and has lived in Sweden for 3 years. I have been perpetually confused as to why vast numbers of Germans and the Brits seem to have such a strong understanding of plants as medicine but the swedes (even in the most alternative circles) seem quite surprised when I share with them the medicinal virtues of their common weeds and garden plants! There is a long standing tradition of snaps (with lots of medicinal herbs being employed there) but folks do not seem to know that there is true medicine in those bottles of snaps! The Halsokost are also amazingly bare of good quality, and a good range of medicinal herbal preparations...What happened? Where the the knowledge of the ancestors go? Did the apoteket do away with it all? I know you are a busy woman but I would love if you have any answers to these questions!

Don't know why the Swedes wouldn't know their herbs. The Finns ditched pretty much everything a few years after WW2, once they could afford real meds ... herbs were the poor relations. Lots and lots of Finns do know some herbs, though, and very many forage.

Hej ! Vilken stor kunskap du har.... rolift att läsa det du skriver tycker jag.
I minträdgård har jag planterat ett Balsmpoppel träd och min fråga är vad kan det användas till?
Det är så att jag och min man köpte en liten bit mark vid sidan av vår trädgård i sommras.
Marken lutar mot söder och innehåller väldigt mycket sten men all den stora skogen är borta sedan stormen Gud run..
Det sägs om mig att jag har gröna fingrar och nu undrar jag vad är det viktigaste att odla till allas behov :-))

Hi Henriette, I have been visiting your site for a few years now. always find things of interest to me as a Traditional Herbal Doctor in South Africa. This site has always helped me when identifying plants as well as reference works from the old books.
Thank you so much for all you do to make info on herbs and herbal medicine more widely available.

Dear Henriette Herbal,

For years I have wondered, what I have been doing wrong with my Lepisma saccharina, they will not get larger than about 10 mm. I can only dream of the samples on the photos, which seem to be like 30 cm high. Would it be beneficial to move them into the garden, or is it something with the wrong fertilizer?

Thanks for a good site and some good advise.

Very interesting! I found your page by googling "The Elements of Materia medica". I received a email that said asparagus, pureed, would, in short, cure cancer! the book was mentioned and so I thought I'd just see if the book even existed.

It's midnight so I'll have to check back again when I am more awake.

Oh, and you are fluent in 4 languages? Awesome! Good for you! Thanks for the info... Jo

A very useful page with lots of good informations - I use it very often to learn about the effects of trees on human health and am very thankful for the collection of bio-medical works in German language!

A great gift to the world, and I hope, that it is gonna stay available online for the whole rest of my life.

Thank you, Henriette, I*ll go on recommending it to all those who still consider the human as inseparatable from the rest of what is named *nature*, even if majority seems to go astray the more destructive than productive way.

This is the choice we always are being making, and I am glad you chose the latter one, too!

Thank you for your website. I am currently in the financial world and am getting very bored with it. I'm german-italian and have always had it in the back of my mind to buy property and start an herbal garden, (my husband has been encouraging me more and more about this). A vegetable garden would be wonderful also and working with my hands rather than my mind only has always been enjoyable. Thank you for your wealth of information on the site. It has been helpful to me to go forward with what I really want to do. Great 2005 picture of yourself, you look happy and your skin looks great.

As a former worker in orthodox medicine, and after a bad experience (With me)I turned to cam. I read Elli Jones many years ago and learned a tremendous amount. This book contains many golden nuggets.

I have hard time finding fresh cut Collinsonia/stone root. I have read in God's Medicine Is Best by Linda Wise that this herb is highly beneficial for varicose veins?
