LINIMENT OF METHYL SALICYLATE.
Synonyms.—Linimentum Betulae Compositum; Compound Liniment of Birch.

| Essential Oil of Camphor | 25.00 | | | 5 fl. ounces |

Dissolve the menthol in the liquids.
This liniment is miscible with either spirit or oil, and is used to paint over rheumatic joints or neuralgic areas, the parts being covered subsequently with flannel or gutta-percha tissue.

| Extract of Indian Hemp | 0.50 | | | 44 grains |
| Essential Oil of Camphor | 25.00 | | | 5 ounces |
| Methyl Salicylate | to 100.00 | | | to 20 ounces |
Triturate the extract with the menthol and chloral hydrate, dissolve the mixture in the essential oil of camphor, and make up to the required volume with methyl salicylate; set aside for twenty-four hours; filter.
